Join the Catskill Center and Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center for a special, family-friendly program all about navigating human and wildlife interactions, especially during the busy spring season when young animals are most vulnerable.
Date: May 30, 2026
Time: 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM
Location: The Catskills Visitor Center
The highlight of the day is a rare opportunity to meet Mellow, a barred owl and incredible wildlife ambassador. Through a live presentation, you’ll discover how owls like Mellow hunt, communicate, and thrive in our local ecosystems, along with the unique adaptations that make them such powerful and essential predators.
Wildlife rehabilitator Genevieve Salerno will guide you through what to do if you encounter an injured or seemingly orphaned animal, helping you understand when to step in and when to give wildlife space. Her insights will give you the confidence to respond appropriately while ensuring animals receive the care they need.
With over 15 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation and 7 years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Genevieve is also an instructor in the Veterinary Science Department at SUNY Delhi. She brings both expertise and compassion to her work, combining hands-on care with education to help people better understand and support wildlife. Alongside Mellow, she offers a rare and memorable glimpse into the lives of wild animals, inspiring a deeper appreciation for the role they play in our ecosystem.
Whether you’re a nature lover, a curious learner, or someone who simply wants to do the right thing when encountering wildlife, this program offers a meaningful and unforgettable experience.
Come learn, connect, and see the wild side of the Catskills in a whole new way.
