Catskill Center Statement on the EPA’s Endangerment Finding Reversal
The Catskill Center stands firmly against the EPA’s decision to revoke the endangerment finding, a science-based determination that greenhouse gas emissions pose a direct threat to public health and environmental well-being. For more than a decade, this finding has served as a critical foundation for protecting clean air, clean water, and the communities that depend on them.
Climate change is not an abstract future risk. It is already reshaping our landscapes and lives by intensifying floods and droughts, worsening air quality, increasing heat stress, making wildfires more probable, and placing added pressure on ecosystems that provide drinking water to millions of New Yorkers and are the backbone of our forever wild Forest Preserve. Rolling back climate protections moves us in the wrong direction at a time when stronger, not weaker, action is urgently needed.
The Catskill Center remains committed to the science, stewardship, and collaborative action needed to protect the Catskills and the people that depend on them. We will continue working to ensure that climate resilience and the health of our communities remain at the center of environmental decision-making.
New Yorkers are encouraged to stay engaged and make their voices heard. New York has long been a leader in climate action, and continued progress depends on strong state-level leadership. Contact state officials to express your support for policies that reduce carbon emissions, protect public health, and safeguard the natural systems that sustain our communities.
