Volunteer Stewardship Day at Platte Clove Preserve

Join the Catskill Center and Parks Project for a hands-on volunteer day in celebration of National Trails Day 2026, focused on protecting the trails and landscapes of Platte Clove Preserve.

Date: Saturday, June 6, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST

Location: Platte Clove Preserve, Platte Clove Rd. Elka Park  NY 12427

Where to Meet: At the trail entrance in front of the Red Cabin.

Trail maintenance plays a critical role in preserving our natural landscapes. Clear, visible routes help prevent off-trail use, which can damage sensitive plant communities, accelerate erosion, and fragment habitat. By improving trail accessibility, we protect everything around it.

Volunteers will work with Catskill Center Executive Director Jeff Senterman to improve Platte Clove’s trail system by re-marking routes, re-routing sections that have shifted too close to cliff edges, installing bog bridging in muddy areas, and restoring unofficial paths that are contributing to erosion.

Together with the Catskill Center and Parks Project you’ll put Leave No Trace principles into action while making a meaningful impact on one of the Catskills’ most iconic landscapes.

Please come prepared for a morning of outdoor work. Long sleeves, pants, and sturdy footwear are recommended, as the terrain can be muddy and uneven. Bringing a packed lunch is encouraged, with snacks and drinks provided by the Catskill Center and Parks Project. Weather in this area can change quickly, so a rain jacket is a good idea.

We’ll be using hand tools throughout the day, and a safety demonstration will be provided before work begins. Gloves, tools, bug spray, sunscreen, and other safety equipment will be supplied. Ticks are common in this area, so please take appropriate precautions and check thoroughly after the event.

Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.

We hope you’ll join us to help protect the Catskills while learning valuable stewardship skills!
