Protect the Path Hiking Series: Platte Clove to Codfish Point and Overlook Fire Tower

Join Catskill Steward Dan for a guided hike from Platte Clove Preserve to Codfish Point and the Overlook Fire Tower as we explore Leave No Trace Principle #5: Minimize Campfire Impacts.

Date: Sunday, September 6, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Location: (Parking details will be shared once registration is complete)

Difficulty: Strenuous

Distance: 5.6-mile round trip, out-and-back

Elevation Gain: Approximately 700 feet

Along the way, we'll discuss how campfires can affect forests, wildlife, and natural resources, and learn best practices for reducing their impact when enjoying the outdoors. Participants will gain practical fire safety tips and tool suggestions to use for responsible recreation.

This guided hike is a great opportunity to build outdoor stewardship skills, deepen your understanding of Leave No Trace practices, and experience some of the Catskills' most scenic and historic landscapes. Together, we'll explore how thoughtful outdoor recreation can help protect these special places for future generations.

Please arrive prepared with non-cotton layers, rain gear, sturdy footwear, and enough water, snacks, and lunch for the day.

This is a free event but advance registration is required. Registration closes 24 hours before the event.

Please note: To help ensure the safety of all participants and provide the best possible experience for the group, dogs are not permitted on Catskill Center guided hikes. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to hiking with you!
