Leave It Better Series: Spruceton Road Cleanup

Help keep one of the Catskills’ most popular outdoor recreation areas clean! Join the Catskill Center for a volunteer cleanup along Spruceton Road.

Date: Friday, October 2, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Distance: Up to 1 mile

Location: West Kill, NY 12492 At the end of Spruceton Road, this will be the first parking lot on the left of the road.

Spruceton Road provides access to some of the Catskills’ most popular hiking destinations, including the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower via the Spruceton Trail and Diamond Notch Falls. With increased visitation has come an increase in litter, and we could use your help keeping this special area clean.

We’ll make our way through the Spruceton Trailhead parking area, the end of Spruceton Road, and the Diamond Notch parking lot, picking up litter and debris while discussing Leave No Trace principles and ways we can all help protect the places we love. Trash grabbers, gloves, trash bags, and high-visibility vests will be provided.

After the cleanup, we’ll head to West Kill Brewing to celebrate a job well done! Volunteers ages 21 and older will receive one free drink ticket.

Participants should come prepared with water, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and weather-appropriate clothing, including rain gear. We may be walking through brush and areas with a high tick population, so long pants are recommended.

Registration is required. Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.

For questions, please contact Sammi Delaney at sdelaney@catskillcenter.org.

Please Note: Pets are not permitted at Catskill Center programs and events with the exception of trained service animals assisting their handlers.
