Join Moe Lemire, NYS Licensed Guide and founder of Hike On Guides, for a special spring edition of our Hike & Learn Series. This guided trek along the Acra Point Loop focuses on one of the most magical moments in the Catskills — spring ephemeral season.
Date: Friday, May 1, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: Big Hollow Road Parking Area
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 5.2 Miles Round Trip
Elevation Gain: 1,040 ft
Summit Elevation: 3,098 ft
As we hike, we’ll search for carpets of delicate wildflowers that bloom briefly before the forest canopy fills in. Keep an eye out for Spring Beauties, Trillium, Trout Lily, Bloodroot, Dutchman’s Breeches, and Hepatica, which often appear by the hundreds along the forest floor.
Along the way, Moe will share insights into forest ecology, seasonal changes in the mountains, and the unique adaptations that allow these flowers to thrive in early spring.
This moderate hike is perfect for those looking to slow down, observe closely, and experience the fleeting beauty of spring in the Catskills.
A gear list will be emailed before the program, but please arrive prepared with non-cotton layers, a warm hat, gloves, a coat, sturdy footwear, and enough water, snacks, and lunch for the day.
This is a FREE program with a suggested donation of $10.
