Fourth-grade students from South Kortright Central School and P.S. 133 in Queens met June 13 and 14 in the culmination of a year-long watershed study. Called Project WISE (Watershed Inspired Science Education), the two classes worked together on several projects throughout the year.
Join Catskill Center staff members Helen and Jessica on Saturday, January 21st at 11AM for a leisurely snowshoe down a portion of the old Ontario & Western Railroad - nicknamed the "Old & Weary" -- in picturesque Sullivan County. The rail trail extends from Hurleyville to South Fallsburg, then picks up again in Woodridge and terminates in Mountaindale. We will travel the Hurleyville section for approximately two miles to Echo Lake, then double-back to our starting point. Along the way, Helen will give a brief history of this fascinating railroad and talk about our recent work in the area. Meet at the municipal parking lot on Main Street in Hurleyville at the entrance to the rail trail at 11AM. A limited number of snowshoes are available to borrow from the Catskill Center, so sign up early! Call (845) 586-2611 to register and reserve gear if necessary. (This event will take place as a hike, if the snow has melted.)
The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development is a non-profit membership organization promoting Healthy Ecosystems and Vibrant Communities throughout the Catskills.
