The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development

The Catskill Center is a not-for-profit organization working to protect the natural resources of the Catskill Mountain region of New York State while fostering appropriate and sustainable economic development. For over thirty years our mission has been to stimulate, conduct, and support integrated actions to protect vital ecosystems and uniques landscapes, to enhance economic opportunities for all the region's residents, to preserve cultural and historic assets and to further a regional vision and spirit. Through its research, publications and programs, The Center fosters appreciation, protection and intelligent use of the irreplaceable natural and man-made resources of the Catskills.

As a conservation organization dedicated to preserving the environmental resources of the Catskills, The Center serves a broad and diverse region. As a result, our programs and projects, including the Fire Tower Restoration Project, are aimed at helping organizations and communities grow in ways that complement the qualities that have made the Catskills unique.

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

The NYSDEC was created on July 1,1970 to bring together in a single agency all state programs directed toward protecting and enhancing the environment. The mission of the department is to conserve, improve, and protect New York State's natural resources and environment, and control water, land and air pollution, in order to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well being.
