Designated by the Blue Line, the Catskill Park, includes 1,102 miČ of land and water in 4 counties, which was created in 1904.

The Catskill Forest Preserve - amounting to more than 705,000 acres (roughly 42% of the Catskill Park) is publicly-owned land that will remain, in perpetuity, "forever wild" .


There was once 23 towers in the Catskill Mountain Region (nine within the Catskill Park) and only five fire towers are still standing within the Blue Line. Until fairly recently, all had been closed to the public.
