LAND CONSERVATION PRIORITIES
& HOW YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Catskill Center continues to be actively engaged in regional land conservation initiatives. The places we seek to protect are those that encompass mountains, streams, wetlands, floodplains, ecologically sensitive plant and animal communities, scenic travel corridors, and working farms and forest lands. These places are critical for maintaining the Catskill region’s scenic rural character, outdoor recreation opportunities, fish and wildlife habitat, and local nature-based economy. We place particular emphasis on lands that are within or adjacent to the Catskill Park; important parts of the scenic viewsheds along our major travel corridors; border State land or other protected properties; are relatively large in size; or contain natural resources of special significance. Because The Catskill Center does not have funds readily available to acquire land or easements, most land conservation opportunities arise from charitable donations.
YOU can help us protect the beautiful landscapes and critically important natural resources of the Catskill Mountains that both people and nature depend on. If you are a landowner in the Catskill region, you might consider donating property, either now or in your will, or perhaps protecting your land with a conservation easement. You can also support our land conservation and natural resources work by becoming a Catskill Center member and making a donation. Donations to help us achieve our mission and carry out our important work will be a truly meaningful investment in the future of the Catskills. The Catskill Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and donations (whether monetary or interests in land) are tax deductible.
To request a conservation easement brochure and other information material, schedule a land conservation consultation and walk of your property, or to join as a member or make a donation, please contact The Catskill Center.
