Welcome to the Catskill Center

Founded in 1969, The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development is a membership organization that provides programs and services for the seven counties of the Catskill Region.

The Catskill Center fosters and protects the environmental, cultural and economic well being of the Catskill Mountain Region. Our interdisciplinary approach to protecting our ecosystems and creating vibrant communities encompasses four program areas – Arts & Culture, Education, Natural Resources, and Regional Planning.

Our efforts have led to the protection of over 18,000 acres of land in seven counties, the education of over 9,000 students and 400 teachers, and the revitalization of Main Street in dozens of communities across the Catskills. To date, we have provided over 140 artists residency at the Platte Clove Preserve and held dozens of exhibits at the Erpf Gallery in Arkville.

Emerald Ash Borer Preparedness Workshop

Saturday, March 3rd from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Morgan Outdoors, located at 46 Main Street in Livingston Manor (right off of Route 17, at exit 96)

EAB_Workday

Landowners and interested parties are invited to join the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) for a free workshop on preparation for the arrival of the emerald ash borer.  The emerald ash borer is an invasive beetle that has the potential to infest and kill every ash tree in the state of New York.  Emerald ash borer populations have been identified locally in Orange, Ulster, Greene and Albany counties, and have the potential to spread very quickly.

Workshop attendees will learn how to identify signs and symptoms of the emerald ash borer and discover options for treatment and management of their ash resources as well as statewide efforts to deal with this invasive forest pest.  Immediately following the indoor program, CRISP will lead an optional field trip to survey nearby ash trees for signs of emerald ash borer.

Lindsay and Olive B. O'Connor Foundation.  This exhibit will be on display Monday through Friday, 9-5 and Saturday by appointment, from December 10 through April 6 at the Erpf Gallery, Route 28, Arkville, New York.

The Catskill Center has installed a 22 panel solar array to benefit all four organizations with offices in the Erpf Center and to help teach Catskill residents about the use of solar power in the region. Thanks to a generous grant from The A. Lindsay and Olive B. O'Connor Foundation, the energy production of our 4.84 KW system can be seen on line in real time and will be a valuable component of our education program: "Sustainable Catskills".
